It must be the cold medicine today. Or maybe Jupiter’s in retrograde. Don has finally convinced me to stick my foot in the door of the Apple world.

Earlier today I purchased a Mac Mini, the least expensive one. Not a desktop replacement, this little guy will be replacing my Windows-based media server in the living room. At the same time it gives me the opportunity to learn about this OS that I haven’t touched since way back in version 6.5.2 (seriously). Plus, the wife likes it.

I’ll let you know how it goes once it arrives. I bought it on-line because I wanted the extra Gig of RAM that was otherwise a pain in the neck to get through the Apple store. It’ll be here in a little over a week.

Am I cool now?

Has the Mac Mini been upgraded recently with all the other Mac upgrades? Or is it still the same model that came out a few years ago? Apple seems to be upgrading everything, but I haven’t heard about any Mini upgrades, other than a processor upgrade last year.

Check the link in the above posting for the specs. Having zero knowledge of any Mac equipment since their dinosaur days, I’ve no idea if they’re any better or worse than before. If it helps, the overly-helpful guy at the Apple store tells me that they’re pretty zippy.

Little did I know that this “great restaurant” was actually the Big Apple’s flagship Apple store. Restaurant, indeed…

The Mini’s gotten proc and drive upgrades but not much else. Which basically means the external case and SuperDrive option are about the same. Most of the other Macs have gotten proc and drive bumps, too, and more noticeably new cases. MOST of the “new features” are in Leopard.
